Embracing the Slow Down
The other day, I found myself brushing my teeth, replying to a text, mentally planning dinner, and yelling “BE NICE” to a toddler—all at the same time.
And I thought to myself, “Girl, when exactly do you breathe?”
Somewhere along the way, I started moving like life was a race. I felt like I was late to everything—even when I wasn’t. I wasn’t walking; I was power-striding. I wasn’t eating; I was inhaling. I wasn’t praying; I was panic-praying like, “Hey God, it’s me again. Real quick though…”
The Realization
And it hit me: I’ve been rushing through my own life so fast that I forgot to exist in it. I mean, really be present. In the moment. With God. With myself. With my babies. With my breath.
Because it’s one thing to be productive. But it’s another thing to be so productive that you forget you’re human.
Choosing to Slow Down
So, I’ve been choosing to slow down. Not because I’ve suddenly mastered peace and mindfulness (lol, not even close). But because anxiety was out here thriving—and I wasn’t.
Now, I’m practicing slow mornings when I can. I’m letting my coffee get cold because I was journaling mid-sip. I’m allowing myself to feel things instead of brushing past them like an email I’ll reply to later (but never do).
I’m learning that rest is not laziness. Pausing is not failure. And being still doesn’t mean you’re falling behind.
God’s Timing
God isn’t rushing me. So why am I rushing myself?
Sis, the world can wait. Slow down enough to exist. You deserve that kind of peace.
Finding Balance in Life
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We juggle responsibilities, deadlines, and expectations. But amidst this chaos, it’s essential to find balance.
What does balance look like for you? It might be setting aside time for self-care or simply taking a moment to breathe.
The Importance of Self-Care
Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. When we prioritize our well-being, we can show up better for ourselves and others.
Consider incorporating small self-care rituals into your daily routine. Whether it’s a warm cup of tea, a short walk, or a few moments of quiet reflection, these moments matter.
Mindfulness Practices
Mindfulness can help ground us in the present. Here are a few practices to consider:
Deep Breathing: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a moment, and exhale slowly through your mouth.
Gratitude Journaling: Write down three things you’re grateful for each day. This simple practice can shift your mindset and help you appreciate the little things.
Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors. Nature has a way of calming our minds and reminding us of life’s beauty.
Embracing Imperfection
Remember, it’s okay to be imperfect. Life isn’t about being flawless; it’s about being real. Embrace your quirks, your messiness, and your journey.
Building a Support System
Surround yourself with people who uplift you. Share your struggles and victories with friends or family. A strong support system can make a world of difference.
Conclusion: Your Journey to Peace
As you navigate life’s ups and downs, remember to slow down. Embrace the moments, both big and small. You are worthy of peace and joy.
Let’s commit to being present together. After all, life is not a race; it’s a beautiful journey.
Scripture Reflection: For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT).
And as you reflect on this, remember that you are not alone. We’re all in this together, finding our way, one mindful moment at a time.
